I am saddened to hear of the death of Gil Scott Heron, the man who can claim to have inspired the first wave of rap musicians. Without "The Revolution will not be Televised" we might not have had "The Message". He was of course a brilliant musician and lyricist with a Scottish connection - his dad once played for Celtic. This was the subject of a song by our own Michael Marra, Flight of the Heron. Gerry Hassan met Gil Scott Heron in the US a few years before his death and presented him with Marra's song.
