I am grateful to Andrew Simpson of The Fighting 69th for drawing my attention to the forgotten Scottish American folk singer Phil Ochs who was a central figure in the 1960s counter culture. Bob Dylan was his biggest fan, saying he found it hard to "keep up with Phil" and Arlo Guthrie, son of the legendary Woody, covered his songs. Looks like Ochs, whose mother came from Scotland, will soon get the attention that made him such a huge figure in the folk revival. Sean Penn has bought the rights to film his life story
i was surprised to learn how dylan idolized phil. in books and videos of rolling thunder it seemed like ochs like joan baez were excess baggage, treated and embaressed by dylan's actions

Joan, good song, but I must admit I didn't know of him, but I do now.
