I've been trying to get Schwalbe Marathon Winter tyres for the last few weeks. Not surprisingly all the bike shops are sold out. Perhaps I'll get some in July.

Winter tyres can be used all year round and I do so.

I would not be allowed into Germany if I did not have them on my car.

The only downside I have found is that there is a bit more road noise in summer.

No loss in handling or fuel consumption.

It would be good if Keith Brown asked the public if a 'winter tyres' for all policy would be acceptable. Some will say they can't afford it but everyone buys new tyres don't they? They can be changed from winter to standard twice a year until the standard ones wear out then we can all drive on winter tyres all year round. That's perfectly safe.

In fact it would make people and the roads safer too.
