The violence in Afghanistan has reached a level where many ask: "Is it worth it?" I find myself torn. I don't want innocent Afghan children killed in my name. But I was glad that we helped toppled the Taliban, who appeared to be motivated by a deep fear and hatred of women. A piece in the Telegraph this week by Dean Nelson, another good friend and excellent journalist, looks at the plight of the Kalash people.
Believed to be descendents of Alexander the Great's army, they have lived in the mountains of Afghanistan for more than a millennium. Kalash women have considerable autonomy which is now under threat because the Taliban have encrouched on their communities.
